Defence is a complex business. Negotiating the tangled
relationships between the projection of Government, foreign and economic
policies, Front Line capabilities, procurement and logistics and support from
the industrial base, requires a deft hand and sensitive thinking. This article outlines the basic principles of

The Defence Industrial Strategy
The Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS), published in December
2005, seeks to lay out a forward-looking basis for future defence
requirements and to set out, for the first time, "those industrial
capabilities
we need in the UK to ensure that we can continue to operate our equipment in the
way we choose" (Ministerial Foreword to the DIS).
Lord Drayson said the DIS would happen by a certain date and, impressively, it happened. It's a clear statement of what it meant to do.
