E-Procurement
The IT revolution vaunted huge improvement in efficiency, cost
savings and delivery times. Organisations have reaped the benefits but only
under certain conditions. This article reviews whether technology has delivered
everything it promised.
Saving graces
Research commissioned by Oracle and the Chartered Institute of
Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), conducted by Bristol Business School, examined the
entire procurement-to-payment cycle. Entitled I-SAVE it identified that
best-in-class organisations excel in three areas: people, process and
technology. Organisations that fall behind in one of these will certainly
struggle to meet their goals.
There is now demand for technology improvements even before reaching the procurement sage. Many
budget holders within organisations have become used to buying consumer goods
over the internet in a few clicks, after browsing an on-line catalogue, and
expect to make business requisitions in the same manner.
